Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort’s $80 million renovation is now award-winning.

The resort earned the title of Best New Resort/Major Renovation in Hawaii by the TravelAge West 2021 WAVE, or Western Agents’ Votes of Excellence. Winners were selected by travel industry professionals based on product analysis, on-site visits, and surveys, as well as votes by TravelAge West readers.

The renovation was unveiled earlier this year, when the property reopened following the completion of the first phase of the project. This first phase included a remodel of the rooms and suites, updated poolside furniture, new artwork installations, and a reimagined Kani Ka Pila Grille that features expanded outdoor seating.

The second phase of the renovation will include converting the resort’s five-story Diamond Head Tower into 23 rooms and deluxe suites. Next year, Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman will also join the property as the new anchor restaurant.

The renovation was led by architecture and design firm Hart Howerton, which incorporated input from Hawaiian cultural practitioners.

“This award is the result of an incredible team effort – from the talented architects at Hart Howerton to the construction crew on property and our Outrigger hosts who continued to provide heartfelt island hospitality in a truly challenging year,” said Sean Dee, EVP and chief commercial officer for Outrigger Hospitality Group, in a statement. “Being recognized by our peers as Hawaii’s best new resort/major renovation is the ultimate honor.”
